Hedley's trip to the Niah Caves

Thirty years ago, in 1980, Hedley went on a trip with his wife and elder daughter Kate to the Niah caves in Sarawak, Malaysia .

They started their trip from Brunei early in the morning by car; they had a very interesting, exciting and hard trip and they saw a lot of rare things during their trip; they faced a lot of problems during the trip; they didn't find any place to sleep or to eat because there were no restaurants and hotels those days so they took their food with them. They drove to the border of Sarawak, then they crossed two large rivers by a big ferry and had their lunch in Miri and continued to Niah. They hired a small boat and sailed to a government house to rest and spend the night there. They had their dinner with a small group of scientists. It was a remote and terrible place deep in the jungle so they acquired an experience. In the morning, they continued their trip on foot until they reached the Niah caves. Inside the caves they saw birds nests and some men climbing to scrape birds nests off the roof, collecting them and selling them to the Chinese because the Chinese were making bird's nest soup.

In the afternoon, they prepared their things and said goodbye to their new friends in the house and drove back home. They had a very hard adventure but at the same time it was very interesting and exciting; it was amazing; they would never forget those moments.
